Why a theological academy in Italy?

Italy has a population of about 58,000,000, most of whom are Roman Catholic. In fact, only about 338,000 people—less than one percent of the population—are Protestant. Historically, the Reformation never gained a footing in this country. At one time, several evangelical denominations had some influence on the nation, but today the majority of congregations are very liberal.

Most sound evangelical churches are led by pastors who must also work secular jobs, and many of them have no formal Biblical training. Many of these churches, while enthusiastic about evangelism, do not enjoy in-depth exposition of God’s Word.

In this chaotic spiritual environment, cults have little difficulty attracting followers: there are approximately 24,000 Mormons and 400,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses in Italy today.

The Italian Theological Academy, a ministry of Aurora Mission, Inc., has the vision of shining the clear light of God’s truth into the hearts of Italy’s church leadership.

The Italian Theological Academy seeks to be used by God to instruct these men in expository preaching, show them how to interpret Scripture, and give them the study tools necessary to preach the Word to their congregations with power, purity and integrity.
The Academy is located in the Province of Catania in a fraction (or suburb) of Acireale called Pennisi.
